Spring cleaning isn’t exactly my favorite thing, but there’s no reason it has to be boring or dreaded. It can be the perfect time to help your kids develop a good work ethic, get extra help, and enjoy some fun.
PLUS – This post is sponsored by On-Cor Entrées which means I get to bring you a fantastic Spring Cleaning Prize Pack Giveaway!
Get Your Kids To Help Spring Clean
Try these ideas to get your kids involved in your spring cleaning efforts and teach them the importance of hard work:
Make It A Race Against Dinner!
If your kids are anything like mine, they constantly ask when they can eat. Breakfast, lunch, but dinner is the worst! Luckily, On-Cor Entrées are a fast, easy, and delicious option. One of our favorites is Home Style Gravy & Meatloaf Slices. Hearty slices of tender meatloaf with rich home style gravy. Made with pork, beef and chicken.
All On-Cor Entrées include ingredients made to satisfy the needs of moms looking for convenient, quality dinner solutions for their families. That’s why On-Cor is a great solution for “one of those nights.” You know what I mean – you’ve got homework, soccer practice, laundry …and cleaning. Why not get two things done at once!

Create a list of 2 or 3 things each child can do and tell them they have exactly the time needed to prepare dinner to get their list done. Example: On-Cor Home Style Gravy & Meatloaf Slices takes 1 hr in the oven or 16 minutes in the microwave. Dare them to get the entire list done before the meal is on the table.
To your kids, it will be a fun way to pass the time instead of saying “Is dinner ready yet?” To you, it’s a great way to start a pre-meal tradition while creating a mutually beneficial situation for both you and your children.
Older Kids? Time to Barter
Older children, especially teens, won’t be tempted by a race. For them, just be honest and offer an incentive. Tell them that you need their help and offer to help them in return. Have they been wanting a ride to hang out with friends on Saturday? If they do XYZ to help clean up, then they can count on a ride to and from their activity.
Tip → To get them even more involved, let them choose the task. Of course, you can offer guidance if they come up with something you know only requires half their effort. By letting them brainstorm how they can help, they’ll get in the habit of proactive thinking and feel as if they had a say in their job. Win-win.
#3 Long-Term Rewards
Kids of all ages respond well to rewards, but handing them something within minutes of completion may not be the most effective option. Planning long-term rewards will teach them responsibility, routine, and patience for a job well done. Try using a printable to keep track like this free reward chart or hand out reward coupons at the end of the week.
Kids respond tremendously well to all types of rewards and only you can judge what rewards will properly motivate yours. Treat your kid to a reward and earn yourself an extra set of hands for spring cleaning.
