How often do you think about protecting your lips when you go out in the sun? Do you apply sunscreen to your lips regularly when you are outside?
Did you know that it’s actually easier to burn our lips then you think? Our lips have thinner skin then the rest of our body so it makes perfect sense that they will burn easily. Have you ever burnt your lips before? Unfortunately I have. I didn’t realize it until it was too late. It was extremely uncomfortable and I learned my lesson! I put lip balm on as part of my morning routine and always have one container of it in my SUV, my purse, and in a drawer in the kitchen.
Here are 6 Tips To Help Protect Your Lips:
Protect Your Lips Tip #1: Use Lip Balm with Sunscreen
Not all lip balms have sunscreen. When you are looking for a new lip balm, make sure it has SPF of between 15 and 50 SPF.
Protect Your Lips Tip #2: Reapply, Reapply, Reapply lip balm with sunscreen on your lips
Lip balm with SPF isn’t going to keep your lips protected all day. Just like sunscreen we have to keep reapplying. It’s not once and done.
Protect Your Lips Tip #3: Exfoliate your lips
Have you ever had that feeling of dry skin on your lips? I think it’s one of the worst feelings in the world. That’s when I know it’s time to exfoliate my lips! Using your favorite lip scrub, slough the dry dead skin off of your lips, then rinse with water. Follow with your favorite lip balm. If you are planning on putting lipstick on after you exfoliate, forego the lip balm, add your lip primer then your favorite lipstick.
Protect Your Lips Tip #4: Stay hydrated
Just like we need to drink lots of water so we don’t dehydrate, water is also key to keep our skin and lips hydrated. Make sure to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.
Protect Your Lips Tip #5: Maintain a Healthy Diet
As they say with everything, try to maintain a healthy diet full of fruits and veggies. Lots of food contain the natural vitamins we need to keep our body on track.
Protect Your Lips Tip #6 Moisturize your lips
Keeping our lips moisturized is another key part in protecting our lips. You don’t need to invest a lot of money either. Make sure you buy a lip balm that contains essential oils such as Moroccan Magic.
