Welcoming Overnight Guests for the Holidays?
Welcoming overnight guests for the holidays doesn’t have to be a time consuming process, a budget breaker, or a nightmare.
Do you have out of town guests coming to visit during the holidays? Before you start having flashbacks from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation about holiday guests, take a deep breath and relax! It doesn’t have to have THAT stressful or chaotic!
Don’t get me wrong I can totally relate to those holidays that went terribly wrong and that were a HUGE mess! We all have! Of course as a child I used to love having family at our home because all I could think about was playing with my cousins, however, as an adult I can only imagine what my parents went through.
As adults we have hosted out of town guests into our home during the holidays and I’ve learned if you put some pre-planning into it, you can somewhat plan the stay before your guests arrive. Of course life happens, but with our list, hopefully it will go a bit smoother for you!
Tips to Making your Overnight Guests Feel at Home during the Holidays:
Clean up your home ahead of time
I’m not talking about deep cleaning your whole home from top to bottom because no one has time for that. Just go through your home, tidy up some of the clutter, vacuum, wipe down countertops, appliances, mop the floors, have the kids pick up their rooms/toys.
Prepare the Guest Room
If you happen to have a separate room for your guests, put fresh linens on the bed, dust the furniture, vacuum, wipe down cobwebs (I’m sure you don’t have any, but they always manage to get into my house).
Prep the Guest Bathroom
If your guests will have their own bathroom, now is the time to freshen it up. Wipe everything down, maybe invest in a couple of new towels, make sure all of the toiletries are stocked.
Have snacks available for your Overnight Guests
Set out a few snacks and bottles of water so your guests can nosh on them once they retire to their room at night. This way they don’t need to wandering around the house or feel awkward asking you for a snack.
Plan activities for the Whole Family to Enjoy
Check the calendar for your local area to see what events will be going on and plan a few family events outside of the house.
Create a Welcome to Our Home Basket
This basket can be as simple or extravagant as you want! Add in body wash, towels, water, snacks, candles, candies, hand soaps, or any thing that you know are favorites of your guests. Put the items in a fun basket that they can take with them! Also include a little note welcoming your overnight guests to your home and letting them know these goodies are for them. You could also reach out to your local visitors bureau and see what items they have that are available for purchase that are produced in your area.
Lastly, Enjoy your Guests and Create Fun Memories!
