Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tbsp. cornstarch
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tbsp. unsalted butter
  • 2 large Granny Smith apples cored and sliced
  • 4 Gala apples cored and sliced
  • 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  • Preheat the mini cast iron skillets and a large cast iron skillet. Add a tablespoon of butter in the large skillet. If using the small skillets to cook and serve the apples, add a tsp of butter into each of the smaller skillets.
  • Add the smaller skillets to the oven and allow the butter to melt while the oven is heating. Turn the burner on and allow the large skillet to heat to medium high and for the butter to melt.
  • Wash, core, and peel (if desired) the apples.
  • Once the large skillet is heated, add in all of the ingredients EXCEPT for the apples and allow the mixture to come to a boil. Stirring occasionally, allow the mixture to thicken, then add in the apples.
  • Coat the apples thoroughly with the mixture and then add the cast iron skillet into the oven.
  • If you are using the little skillets, spoon the apples and the sauce into the smaller skillets, and then add them into the oven.
  • Cook the apples until they are soft, approximately 30 - 45 minutes.
  • Remove them from the oven. Let them set for 5 - 10 minutes so they can cool.
  • You can add them to the top of vanilla ice cream for a real treat!
