How to Make Baked Cinnamon Donuts

I don’t know about you but there’s just something about enjoying a warm doughnut and a cup of hot coffee that just makes the day go better.

I love making donuts at home. Now that I’ve discovered how easy it is to do, I love finding new donut recipes to try such as Baked Chocolate Donuts and these amazing Strawberry Donuts.

Why You Need to Make This Recipe

  • No deep frying
  • Full of cinnamon and sugar
  • Warm and fresh right from your oven

Expert Tips, Ingredient List and Suggestions for Recipe Success

You will find a complete list of all of the ingredients in the printable recipe card below. However, these are just a few suggestions in case you don’t have the actual items in your pantry need to make this recipe.

  • All-purpose flour – make sure when measuring flour that you use the spoon and level with a knife method. Do not just scoop with a measuring cup. You will not get an accurate measurement.
  • Kosher salt – when using salt in your recipes. Make sure to use kosher salt. Do not use regular table salt. Since kosher salt is more of a coarse salt, it will stick to the food better giving you a better result. Table salt is to be used at the table when you want to add more salt to your actual plate of food.
  • Pure vanilla extract – if you can find it, pure vanilla extract is always the best to use.
  • Unsweetened cinnamon applesauce – try to use unsweetened. If you only have sweetened, the donuts may turn out a bit sweeter than you’d like.
Ingredients

Step by Step Directions

Step 1: Preheat your oven and prepare your donut pans and set them aside.

Step 2: Combine your dry ingredients (flour, sugar, cornstarch, baking powder, and salt) together in a large bowl. Mix together with a whisk until the ingredients are combined.

Step 3: Add the wet ingredients (egg, milk, vanilla, and applesauce) into a small bowl and whisk together.

Step 4: Combine the wet ingredients into the dry. Mix until they are just combined. DO NOT OVER MIX.

Step 5: Add in the cinnamon.

Step 6: Fill each cavity of the donut pan about 3/4 full.

Step 7: Bake the donuts for approximately 10 to 12 minutes or until the toothpick or cake tester comes out clean.

Step 8: Add the cinnamon and powdered sugar into a Ziploc bag and set aside.

Step 9: Once the donuts are cool, remove them from the pan and while they are still warm, toss each donut into the bag, or bowl if you prefer, and coat each donut with the sugar mixture.

Step 10: Allow them to cool completely before storing in an airtight container.
