Making homemade pizza at home is a great way to not only get the kids involved, it's also a great way to make personalized pizzas for everyone!
Friday nights are usually pizza night. Even though we have a great variety of pizza places near us, I like to toss things up a bit and make homemade pizzas at home. There are so many different ways you can make your own pizza!
I had ground beef out and no clue what to make. I decided to try to make a spinoff of my steak, pepper and cheese sandwiches which I need to post about. This pizza was absolutely amazing.
This time I used a store-bought crust that we really like. However, feel free to use your own homemade recipe.
Another fun way to use pizza crust is by making Breakfast pizza! Seriously, if you haven't made it yet, you have to try it! Make sure to check out our Ricotta Breakfast Pizza! I'm sure your family will love it!
Of course you will need an appetizer to go with your pizza! Our Garlic Flatbread is the perfect accompaniment!

Ingredients
- Pizza crust-homemade or store bought
- lean ground beef - I normally use 80/20 when making recipes that call for ground beef.
- green pepper - fresh or frozen will work
- sweet or red onion - you can even use yellow or white. This is totally up to you.
- shredded pizza cheese or mozzarella
Step by Step Directions
Preparing the vegetables.
Adding the toppings to the pizza.
Substitutions
- Garlic - you can use garlic powder instead of fresh garlic. You can also use the minced garlic that comes in a jar.
- Ground beef - I feel that 80/20 gives you the best flavor all around, however, feel free to use 90/10 or 70/30. You could also use sausage.
Variations
- Kid friendly - Since my kids aren't fans of peppers and onions, I made a pizza just for them with the hamburger and white sauce.
- Bacon - cook up some bacon and dice it into small pieces for an additional topping.
- Red sauce - to change things up, use pizza sauce instead of making the white sauce.
- Banana peppers - if someone in your family loves those, serve some up on the side.
Equipment
- large skillet
- small saucepan
- knife
- cutting board
- pizza cutter
- baking sheet or pizza pan
- whisk
- smaller skillet
Storage
Fridge: Store any leftovers in a plastic bag. They will stay fresh for up to two days.
Freezer: Not recommended.
Top Tips
Making homemade pizza is a great way to get the kids involved with cooking. Let them help by putting the different toppings on.
FAQ
Preheat your oven to 450 degrees. Then place the crust on the bottom rack in the oven and cook about 10 - 15 minutes. Check the crust though throughout the baking process as each oven is different. Your crust will get nice and golden brown on the bottom. Then remove from the oven and put the toppings on, then place it back into the oven to finish cooking.
You want to season the meat before you cook it. As soon as you add the ground beef into the skillet, add in your Kosher salt, pepper, and favorite seasoning, such as Montreal steak seasoning, or whichever flavor you prefer. You can also add in onion powder, garlic powder, or Italian seasoning.
